Moghalu Reacts As Buhari Honours Ex-CJN Tanko With Top National Award

Former African Democratic Party (ADC) Presidential aspirant Kingsley Moghalu has condemned the national award of Grand Commander of the Order of Niger, GCON, conferred on the immediate past Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad.

Ezenwoko’s Blog reports that President Muhammadu Buhari had on Monday conferred Justice Muhammad with the second-highest national honour.

During the swearing-in of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as Acting CJN at the State House, Buhari said the award was being conferred on the jurist for the excellent work he did while in office.

Reacting to the development in a Twitter post, Moghalu slammed President Buhari over the top national honour conferred on Justice Muhammad.

The former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) wondered about the criteria used to confer the GCON award on the immediate past CJN.

Moghalu said that Tanko’s tenure was spectacularly undistinguished, stating that Nigeria’s judiciary is corrupt and needs to be cleaned up.

“I’m not exactly certain what qualifies our recently retired Chief Justice of Nigeria Tanko Muhammad for the very high national Honour of GCON.

“The man retired under a cloud. His tenure was spectacularly undistinguished. Nigeria’s judiciary is corrupt and needs to be cleaned up,” he wrote.
