Igbo Youths React As Justice Nyako Denies Nnamdi Kanu Bail

The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has condemned the ruling of Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja, denying the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, bail.

Ezenwoko’s Blog reports that Justice Nyako adjourned the case of the pro-Biafra activist till November 14, 2022, pending the determination of the Appeal Court.

It was gathered that Nnamdi Kanu’s legal team would approach the Court of Appeal following his bail denial by the High Court.

The IPOB leader is being tried over alleged running an illegal group, treason, and jumping bail.

Reacting in a statement by its President-General, Goodluck Ibem, the Igbo youths expressed displeasure over the court’s ruling, adding that the judgment was inhuman and grossly against his right to life.

He accused President Muhammadu Buhari of influencing the court’s decision, stating that the judgment was similar to what the president told Prime Minister of Great Britain, Boris Johnson, during their recent meeting.

“The verdict of Justice Binta Nyako is the same statement made by President Muhammadu Buhari on June 23, 2022 during a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Great Britain Boris Johnson on the margins of the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Kagali, Kwanda where the President Buhari told the PM Johnson ” remember he jumped bail before, how are we sure he won’t do it again, if he’s admitted to bail?”.

“President Buhari even went further to say he was arrested based on the things he said against his person, meaning that the entire exercise is a gross personal vendetta.

“When did the statement of the President become the verdict or judgement of the court? Are we running a democratic government or a unitary system of government where only one man determines the fate of millions of Nigerians even when it is unconstitutional, undemocratic and inhuman?

”We call on the international community, including the United Nations and all lovers of democracy to come to the aid of Nigerians, stating that their hard-earned democracy is hanging,” the statement reads.
