The former Arsenal signing is one of Nigeria’s most talented youngsters in recent times

Ponferradina midfielder Kelechi Nwakali has taken to Instagram to share a throwback post that brought back memories of his historic achievement at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup, reports Soccernet.ng.

The Nigerian international shared a photo of himself carrying the World Cup trophy on his head, followed by a section of joyous Nigerian supporters with the caption: “Throwback to when Nigeria go suffer you upon say you win.”

Nwakali, named the captain of the Nigerian U-17 side, led his country to the title, winning the Golden Ball Award along the way.

His performances at the tournament earned him a move to English Premier League side Arsenal. He also had loan spells with MVV Maastricht, VVV-Venlo, Porto B, and Huesca before joining Ponferradina.

After a spell with the Flying Eagles, Nwakali was called up to the Nigeria senior national team that participated in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, postponed to 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Nwakali started his career at the Diamond Football Academy, where he honed his skills and caught the attention of scouts. The 24-year-old midfielder has since established himself as one of the brightest young talents from Nigeria, a country with a rich footballing history, producing some of the finest players in the world, including Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.
