Kennedy Boboye: Ex-Akwa United handler bags UEFA coaching badge, reveals Super Eagles ambition

In the wake of his recent feat, the veteran tactician says his biggest dream is to manage the three-time African kings

Kennedy Boboye has earned another coaching badge after he bagged a UEFA C-Licence from the Irish Football Association on Saturday.

Still unattached to any team, the 45-year-old took this step of ‘upgrading’ himself in a bid to get ‘better’ and also to put him on track to land his dream job.

UEFA C is a coaching qualification designed for tacticians looking to improve their skills and develop their players. Aside from that, it is also pre-requisite for those wishing to enroll on the UEFA B Licence.

Explaining his mission in Europe, Boboye told Soccernet.ng: “The only way you can be successful in coaching business is by upgrading yourself. This should be done at least every six months to stay up to date.

“Since I do not have any other business aside from coaching, then it was necessary for me to take this step as I always want to get better.

“One of my targets is to be one of the greatest coaches in Nigeria and Africa.”

While relishing his experience in Belfast, he also talked about his next coaching move in Nigeria’s topflight.

He continued: “I am happy to have been here. It was one of the best career decisions I have made. Hopefully, I will return for my UEFA B license before this year runs out.

“I have learnt a big deal here and you will see the changes in my next job.

“As it stands, I have about four NPFL teams who are keening on getting my service.

“So, when return to the country soon, I will consider the options before to know my next destination.”

Ultimately, coaching the Super Eagles is the former Nigeria youth international’s biggest ambition.

“I have won the NPFL twice but my ultimate goal as a coach is to handle the Nigeria senior national team and help them to win laurels.”

Following his retirement from active football after spells at Fortuna Dusseldorf, KFC Uerdingen 05 and Manning Rangers, the former Nigeria youth international went into administration.

After stints at Sunshine Queens, Sunshine Stars and Abia Warriors, he helped Plateau United win the NPFL in 2017 before replacing John Obuh at Akwa United after handling Remo Stars before then.

At the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, he led the Promise Keepers to emerging as NPFL champions in the 2020-21 triumph – earning a Caf Champions League ticket in the process.

After leaving the Uyo based outfit, he was named as assistant to coach Salisu Yusuf in Nigeria U23 and CHAN Eagles teams.
