Huge Explosion Kills Dozens In Ghana

Numerous people are believed to have perished in a massive explosion near a mining town in western Ghana.

According to police, a vehicle transporting mining explosives collided with a motorcycle near Bogoso.

Local media outlets shared images of a large plume of black smoke rising above destroyed buildings and scattered debris as residents pleaded for assistance.

The number of casualties has not been confirmed by police, but graphic videos showed victims’ bodies being mutilated.

Additionally, a large crater can be seen alongside a road.

Police stated in an emergency notice that the “massive explosion” occurred between Bogoso and the village of Bawdie. Rescue efforts are ongoing, and residents have been asked to vacate the area.

Police pleaded with neighbouring towns to “open their classrooms, churches, and other facilities to accommodate surviving victims.”

“We continue to urge the public to remain calm as we manage the situation.”

President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana said the military had joined emergency efforts to “contain the situation,” and the country’s disaster management agency had been tasked with providing “rapid relief” to residents.

“It is a truly sad, unfortunate and tragic incident,” he tweeted.
