‘He gets punished’ – Arsenal great blames Spurs ace Dier for letting Iheanacho turn him inside-out for Leicester’s third goal

The Super Eagles striker showed tremendous quality and composure as the Foxes completely outfoxed their visitors on Saturday

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has lampooned Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier after Kelechi Iheanacho ghosted him to score for Leicester City in a Premier League clash at the King Power Stadium.

Days after scoring once and providing two assists in Leicester’s 4-2 away win at Aston Villa, Iheanacho was again one of the Foxes’ most influential performers on Saturday afternoon.

The Super Eagles striker claimed an assist and a goal as Brendan Rodgers’ men smoked Spurs 4-1 in front of 32,184 spectators.

Several minutes after laying off the ball for James Maddison to make it 2-1 for Leicester, Kelechi Iheanacho was allowed to run at the Tottenham defence.

Iheanacho appeared to be held up by Spurs ace Eric Dier but the former Manchester City man did not panic. He turned the defender inside-out, picked his spot and curled a low shot just inside the post for a clinical finish.

And former England defender Martin Keown could not hide his disgust at Eric Dier for allowing Iheanacho all the room he needed to cause damage.

“For me, I rate Eric Dier as a player,” Arsenal great Keown said, as per BBC.

“He played predominantly as a midfield player and it cost him in this situation (Leicester’s third goal).

“Dier should be coming right up to the ball and dealing with it. He stands off it too much and in the end, he gets punished.”

Iheanacho has made 15 Premier League appearances – 13 as a substitute – for Leicester City this season.

Remarkably, the 26-year-old striker has two goals and three assists in the two matches he has started for the Foxes.
