Ex-Super Eagles coach praises Super Falcons after hard-fought draw against Olympic Queens Canada

The Super Falcons were underdogs going into the game, but they managed to grind out a decent result

Former Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen has praised the Super Falcons of Nigeria after their tough goalless draw against Canada in their opening World Cup game, Soccernet reports.

Nigeria began their World Cup campaign with a tough and tricky fixture against Canada. The Canadians had failed to beat Nigeria in the last two meetings between both countries at the World Cup. Still, they were the favourites because Canada won the last Olympics games football competition. Also, they sit 33 places above the Super Falcons in the FIFA rankings.

Nonetheless, Randy Waldrum’s ladies put up a brilliant performance to ensure they left the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium with a point.

Former Super Eagles coach Eguavoen was pleased with the team’s performance and shared his thoughts on social media.

Solid point against Canada for our Queens. All the best for the rest of the group games,” the 57-year-old said.

Next up for the Super Falcons is a fixture against joint-hosts Australia next Thursday at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
