Ex-Premier League star who snubbed Super Eagles urges Chelsea to sign Napoli’s Osimhen

One of what should be Chelsea’s priorities in this transfer window is a reliable goalscorer, as evidenced by their struggles in front of goal last season that contributed to their dismay 12th-place finish in the league

Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has urged Chelsea to go after the signing of Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, claiming the 24-year-old will good be a good addition to the West London side, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Blues have previously secured the signing of 22-year-old Ivorian striker Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal. But despite the signing of the 22-year-old striker, Agbonlahor still believes Chelsea need another forward.

Recall that when Agbonlahor was at the top of his game with the Villains in 2006, Augustine Eguavoen sought to convince the player born to a Nigerian father to join the Super Eagles, but all of his efforts were in vain.

He has, however, revealed that the Gli Azzurri striker from his Nigerian heritage is equipped with everything the Stamford Bridge team needs to succeed in the forthcoming season.

Chelsea have been the busiest in this transfer window. They have recently overseen the departure of Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, Ngolo Kante, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Ruben Loftus Cheek from the club, while the likes of Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson have moved in the opposite direction.

However, Agbonlahor maintained that the London side still needs a player of Osimhen’s quality in their squad.

“They still need a proper striker. I liked Romelu Lukaku when he was playing at Everton. Victor Osimhen would be good, but I think they are talking around £170m for him, which is too much. But I do feel that Chelsea needs more, as every team is improving.

“Villa will be there next season, so will Brighton, so it will be harder for Chelsea to break into the top four, and that’s the minimum for Chelsea with the amount they have spent,” he told Football Insider.

Osimhen scored 26 goals in 32 appearances for Napoli last season to help them win their first league title in 33 years.
