Every word captain Amhed Musa uttered on Super Eagles players’ meetings, Jamilu Collins, and Afcon readiness

The continent’s most prominent football championship starts today in Cameroon, with Nigeria playing their first match on Tuesday

Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa spent a moment in front of the NFF Media Team camera to share his thoughts on the national team’s preparations for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, which kicks off today, January 9, 2022.

Musa scored the opening goal, and Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze bagged the other as the Super Eagles claimed a 2-0 win over 15-time Cameroon league winners Cotton Sport on Friday.

And after the first training session since that pre-tournament warm-up game, Musa is convinced that the Nigerian players are ready for their first group match at the Afcon against the Egyptian Pharaohs.

The Fatih Karagumruk star expressed delight at the arrival to camp of Venezia full-back Tyronne Ebuehi, and he also revealed that Paderborn’s Jamilu Collins is expected to join the team later on Sunday.

The Super Eagles players have held a series of meetings since landing in Cameroon, which many opined could be centred around their match bonuses and other financial packages.

But Musa insists that their discussions have been focused on how the Eagles can make the country and their families proud.

NFF Media: Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa, another training session gone, so far…

Musa: “Yeah, it was good. As you can see, we had yesterday the game and today have another training. All the conditions are good. Just ready for the first game to play.

“And then thank God for the player (Tyronne Ebuehi) that we’re expecting is in the camp this morning. We are still expecting (Jamilu) Collins. So maybe before this evening, he’s gonna arrive to camp. So that we can have everyone in camp.”

What are you guys saying? I know you have met several times. What are the players talking about as we countdown to our first game on Tuesday against Egypt?

“Yeah, definitely. I talked to the players. We know what is important. Because this tournament, when we win it, it’s gonna make a very big impact to our country, for our family.

“So, definitely, we are all ready. We know what we can do. If we give all our best, we know that we can win the tournament.”

The Super Eagles and the Pharaohs are billed to trade tackles at the Stade Omnisport Roumdé Adjia in Garoua on Tuesday, January 11.
