BREAKING: DSS Releases Veteran Actor Chiwetalu Agu
The Department of State Services (DSS) has released veteran Nollywood actor, Chiwetalu Agu from its custody.
The National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Emeka Rollas, made this known in a statement made available to Ezenwoko’s Blog on Tuesday.
Rollas said that the veteran actor was released after due consultation with the DSS, and was received by him and a colleague, Steve Eboh, at the DSS headquarters.
He added that the elated veteran Actor thanked God for surviving the ordeal and commended the leadership of the Actors Guild of Nigeria for their relentless efforts in securing his release.
The statement reads: “On behalf of the Guild, I was at the DSS office with my colleague, the Senior Special Assistant on Military Affairs and Inter-Governmental Relations to the AGN President Steve Eboh to receive Mr. Agu today.
”The elated veteran Actor thanked God for surviving the ordeal and commended the leadership of the Actors Guild of Nigeria headed by Ejezie Emeka Rollas for their relentless efforts in securing his release from the detention.”
Recall that the Nigerian Army arrested Agu last week around Upper Iweka in Onitsha, Anambra State, for reportedly wearing a Biafra outfit while distributing bread and other items to the poor.
The actor was accused by the army of soliciting support for the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The Nigerian Army thereafter handed him over to the secret police for investigation and prosecution.
A relative of the actor, who spoke to The Punch on the condition of anonymity, said Agu had been flown to Abuja and denied access to his relatives.
