Why I didn’t play Paul Onuachu against Newcastle- Ruben Selles

Out of his nine games for Southampton, Paul Onuachu has only started three

Southampton boss, Ruben Selles, has given reasons for omitting Paul Onuachu from his travelling squad to play against Newcastle, Soccernet.ng reports.

According to the Spaniard, the Nigerian international felt pain in his tendon a day before their trip to St James Park, which ruled him out of the game.

The magpies came from behind to win all three points in their pursuit of UEFA Champions League qualification, dashing Southampton’s hopes of remaining in the English Premier League.

Since his £18 million transfer to Southampton, Onuachu has not received enough playing time under Selles, who has admitted that he has not yet integrated into his strategies.

However, when people questioned why the Nigerian had been absent from their crucial match against Newcastle, he explained that Onuachu was suffering from a knock.

“Paul [Onuachu] was out of the game because he felt his knee yesterday in training in the tendon, and then he was not ready to play today. Hopefully, it will be only four to five days, and that’s why he was not here today.” he said, as quoted by Hampshirelive.

The club has not officially disclosed the duration of Onuachu’s absence, but the former Genk attacker is anticipated to play for Southampton against Nottingham Forest.
