Who will advance from group G in the qualification for Euro 2024: A Preview
Who will advance from group G in the qualification for Euro 2024: A Preview
In Quintet “G” five teams will compete for reaching the next round of the European Championship 2024, namely: Serbia, Hungary, Montenegro, Lithuania and Bulgaria. The tournament, which began in March 2023, will last 12 months. At the end of the competition, the two teams that will score the most points will leave the group. After the spring battles, a clearer picture is emerging about who will manage to reach the final stage of the 2024 European Championship.
Serbia
The White Eagles made an exemplary start in qualifying for the 2024 European Championship. In addition to the fact that Serbia won two victories, the team also did not concede a single goal. First, the guys of Dragan Stojkovic defeated Lithuania at home – 2:0. Then Dusan Tadic and partners went to Podgorica, where they beat Montenegro with the same score. In that fight, towards the end of the match, Dusan Vlahovic scored a double.
After the March segment, the Serbs were the first in the quintet and were three points ahead of the Hungarians, as well as the Montenegrins. The Serbian national team has a good selection of players and is able to add. So the “white eagles” absolutely deservedly are the main contenders for victory in the “G” quintet.
Hungary
“Magic Magyars” played only one match in the March segment, but won. The Hungarians managed to defeat Bulgaria with a score of 3:0 at home. Already in the first half, Balint Vechey, Dominik Soboslai and Martin Adam scored accurate shots for the wards of Marco Rossi. In statistical terms, the “red-white-green” were stronger than the Bulgarians.
The “Magic Magyars” have an extremely competitive squad, able to impose a fight on all opponents in the group. In addition, the quintet Dominik Soboslaj and partners were not particularly difficult. If the Hungarian players continue to act in the same spirit, they will be able to get one of the two tickets to the next round. At the same time, Serbia will most likely be the main competitor in the first place for Hungary.
Montenegro
The Brave Falcons got off to a great start in the qualifying round, beating Bulgaria 1-0 in Razgrad. The only goal in that match for the Montenegrins was scored by Nikola Krstovic. Then the team of Miodrag Radulovic accepted Serbia at home, tried to impose a fight, but eventually lost. Both goals from the “white eagles” “red-yellow” conceded in the last third of the second half. At the same time, in statistical terms, Stevan Jovetic and partners were impressively inferior only in possession of the ball. It is too early to write off Montenegro, because there are a lot of fights ahead.
Montenegro has a fairly strong squad, but in terms of game stability, this team does not differ. If the “brave falcons” improve, they will be able to try to aim for the second line, but it will be extremely difficult to do so. Lithuania
The Yellow-Green-Reds played only one match in March, in which they lost without a chance to Serbia in Belgrade. In each of the halves, Dushany, Tadic and Vlahovic scored once for the Serbs. The Lithuanian players were able to deliver three shots to the goal of Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, but none of them ended up in the net. The start turned out to be unsuccessful for Fedor Chernykh and company, but they did not expect much from Lithuania.
Even by the standards of not the most formidable group, the composition of the “yellow-green-red” is rather weak. One should not seriously count on the fact that Lithuania will compete for one of the first places. Most likely, the wards of Edgaras Jankauskas will fight with the Bulgarians in order not to finish at the bottom of the standings.
Bulgaria
The Lions got off to a lousy start in the tournament and, after two games played, were at the bottom of the standings. After a minimal home loss against Montenegro, the Bulgarians lost devastatingly to the Hungarians in Budapest. In this case, the outcome of the fight was a foregone conclusion in the first half. The guys of Mladen Krstaich should be more serious about further confrontations, but it’s hardly worth counting on getting out of the quintet.
The “Tri-colors” have shown depressing results in recent years and it is not necessary to expect that in the future the Bulgarians will add. So the “lions” must fight for the prestige of the country, but the Bulgarian players will not get a ticket to the final stage of the European Championship 2024.
Our forecast
Bulgaria and Lithuania look unconvincing and these national teams should be excluded from the contenders for reaching the finals of Euro 2024. Montenegro will try to improve and aim for the second line, but the chances are quite small. Serbia and Hungary are very likely to compete for leadership in the quintet, and the first, most likely, will be the “white eagles”.
