“We have to win both games” – Kenneth Omeruo desperate to play another World Cup in a Nigerian jersey
Seven years ago, a young Kenneth Omeruo partnered Super Eagles legend, Joseph Yobo in defence at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Super Eagles central defender, Kenneth Omeruo, has urged his teammates to do their best to win their FIFA World Cup qualifying games, Soccernet.ng reports.
Omeruo, 30, has been a regular for the National team since making his debut in 2013 and played in all of the games of the AFCON tournament that year, taking the gold medal home.
Speaking ahead of Nigeria’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers, the Kasımpaşa defender wants to make amends for missing out on the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
“It’s an important one for us. We missed out on the last World Cup, so we want to take this seriously. We have to do what we have to do to get our tickets for the next World Cup,” the former Chelsea man told Soccernet.ng.
Vastly experienced, Omeruo has featured in two editions of the FIFA World Cup, and spoke about what makes the tournament special.
“The memories, it’s a dream to play at the World Cup, and there’s nothing compared to the atmosphere. It’s something they have to witness. It’s an amazing tournament because you get to see Nigerians travelling all over the World to support their country, and we’re looking forward to another World Cup.”
Nigeria will face familiar faces in Lesotho and Zimbabwe in a bid to start their qualifiers campaign, and the team captain has reiterated the need to win both games.
“We’ve played both teams in the past, and the most important thing is to stick to our game plan and take the game very seriously. We have to win both games,” He added.
The Super Eagles will take on Lesotho on Thursday, before travelling to Zimbabwe to play against them on Sunday.
