The seven-time U-20 AFCON champions could not win their eighth title but were still able to bring home the bronze medal
The Nigerian Flying Eagles have been spotted arriving in Nigeria following the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations competition in Egypt.
Ladan Bosso’s team were sighted magnificently returning to their home country with the confidence that they had given their all throughout the AFCON competition and could now focus more on getting ready for the FIFA U-20 World Cup, which will take place in Indonesia.
While not having the greatest chances of winning the gold medal, the Nigerian under-20 boys earned a ticket to the FIFA U-20 World Cup and the bronze medal in the competition.
After losing their first match against the current 2023 AFCON U-20 winner, Senegal, they recovered and won over Egypt and Mozambique to earn all six points in the group stage.
However, they overcame Uganda’s tenacious hippos to proceed to the semi-final before the Gambia showed them the door.
Once again, the lads made their presence known and clinched the bronze medal by crushing Tunisia in their third-place tie.
Returning to their country without an empty hand, the Nigeria football federation’s (NFF) Twitter handler posted their video on their verified page with the caption: “Welcome back, Flying Eagles.”
