Victor Boniface’s brilliant debut goal for Bayer Leverkusen against West Ham

Boniface just joined Leverkusen two weeks ago, and he has already opened his account in Germany

Nigeria striker Victor Boniface scored his first goal for Bayer Leverkusen in their 4-0 demolition of West Ham in a pre-season game, Soccernet reports.

Boniface completed his transfer from Royale Union SG to German Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth €20.5million.

The prolific 22-year-old goal poacher arrived from Belgium with a big reputation after registering 17 goals and 12 assists in 51 appearances for Royale Union SG. As such, a lot would be expected of him.

Coach Xabi Alonso tasked Boniface to lead their attack when they took on West Ham at the Bay Arena, and the Nigerian proved himself.

Bayer Leverkusen raced to a 2-0 lead in the opening 24 minutes thanks to goals from Jonas Hoffman and an own goal from Thilo Kehrer.

Then Boniface got his chance in the 34th minute, as Florian Wirtz played him through on goal. He then used his pace to beat his marker to get to the ball and fired a wicked pile driver into the left side of the goal post. The strike was not the last, as Robert Andrich scored the fourth goal in the 70th minute.

Boniface was taken off for Adam Hlozek in the 70th minute. The goal he scored was his first for Bayer Leverkusen, but it was their last pre-season game.

The new Bundesliga season will begin on the 19th of August, and Leverkusen have a big game against Leipzig. Before that, however, they will play Teutonia Ottensen in the DFB Pokal.
