Versatile Super Eagles defender pens permanent contract at Portugal Liga’s ninth-best club
The Super Eagles defender was superb for Boavista last season, and he has been rewarded with a new deal
Super Eagles defender Bruno Onyemaechi has sealed a permanent transfer to Portugal Liga club Boavista, Soccernet reports.
The Owerri-born defender joined Boavista on a season-long loan deal from second-tier side Feirense last season, and he proved his brilliance at the club.
Onyemaechi made 33 appearances for the club across all competitions last season. He was a key component in their setup that finished 9th in the Portugal Liga- their best finish since 2019.
Following his brilliance, Boavista have now signed the 24-year-old Super Eagles defender permanently. The Axadrezados paid Feirense €1million for the deal.
Onyemaechi is versatile, as he can play as a centre-back or a left-back. He could also fit in as a central midfielder.
Following his signing, Onyemaechi becomes the second Nigerian at the club after Chidozie Awaziem, who spent last season at Croatian club Hajduk Split.
The two Super Eagles defenders have never played together at Boavista and National team level. However, they could get the chance to play together under coach Petit.
But that may not happen if Awaziem leaves the club, as he has played for four different clubs in the last four years.
