Two in the kitty! Oshoala claims Champions League trophy with Barcelona in dramatic finale
Oshoala could not play because of an injury, but her teammates turned up the heat to ensure they emerged victorious
Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala won her second Champions League trophy with Barcelona Femeni after they produced a marvelous comeback from two goals down to beat Wolfsburg 3-2, Soccernet.ng reports.
Oshoala became the first African woman to win the Women’s Champions League after she helped Barcelona win the trophy in 2021. Last year, they got to the final, but they lost to Lyon.
However, they proved to be too good in the competition this year. Barcelona blew their group opponents away, scoring 29 goals in six games. Then they defeated Roma in the quarterfinals, then they beat Chelsea in the quarterfinals.
Oshoala helped her side with five goals and three assists in the run-up to the finals, but she was ruled out of action after she sustained an injury in Barcelona’s Liga Femeni fixture against Madrid two weeks ago.
In the final that took place at the Philips Stadium in Eindhoven, Barcelona showed their prowess. They were two goals behind at halftime, but they rallied back in the second back, scoring three goals.
Patricia Guijarro scored a brace in the first five minutes of the second half, then Fridolina Rolfo completed the damage for Barcelona Femeni in the 70th minute making it 3-2.
It eventually ended 3-2 at Eindhoven, and Barcelona claimed the crown again for the second time in three years.
For Oshoala, she continues to prove her excellence. She is the only African woman with two Champions League crowns. She also had the most goal contributions for an African player in the Champions League.
