“Truly an honour” – Houston Dash ace Alozie thrilled to be one of only three Super Falcons stars in CAF’s Best XI
The Cancer Research Technician lived the dream in 2023 and received the cherry on her cake in Morocco on Monday night
Houston Dash defender Michelle Alozie has expressed her delight at being included in the 2023 CAF Best Women Team of the Year, Soccernet.ng reports.
Nigeria claimed the biggest prizes of the CAF Award ceremony held in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday night.
Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala were named the best players in Africa in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively.
Paris FC’s Chiamaka Nnadozie won the Best Goalkeeper award, while the Super Falcons emerged as the best national female team on the continent.
One other honour many may have missed in the night’s euphoria was the Team of the Year, which had three Nigerians in the women’s division.
Alozie slotted in at right-back alongside centre-back Osinachi Ohale and centre-forward Oshoala.
It is a truly remarkable achievement for the Molecular Biology graduate who suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament that nearly ended her career before it began and only made her international debut just two years ago.
Alozie, who impressed for Nigeria at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia, where Nigeria became the first African nation to go unbeaten in the group stage of the competition, took to Twitter to share her joy.
