Tottenham plotting to break Gent’s transfer record to sign Orban
Gent signed Orban for €3.3billion in January, but he could leave for far more this summer
English Premier League club Tottenham are willing to offer Gent €30million for free-scoring Nigerian striker Gift Orban, Soccernet reports.
The 21-year-old striker joined Gent from Norwegian second-tier side Stabaek in January for €3.3million, and he hit the ground running.
Orban turned out to be one of the best signings at the club in recent years, scoring 20 goals in 22 games.
His brilliance helped the Buffalos qualify for this season’s Europa League, and he has quickly become an important part of the club’s setup.
Following Orban’s eye-catching performances, Ligue 1 sides Lille and Lens have reportedly shown interest in signing him, but nothing concrete has emerged yet.
Also, the striker with a keen eye for goal has often shared his desire to play in the Premier League, and he may get his wish soon.
According to Sacha Tavolieri, Tottenham are looking to offer Gent €30million for Orban. Spurs could lose star striker Harry Kane this summer amidst interest from Bayern Munich, and they are looking for a replacement.
Tottenham are known to be light spenders, and Orban is one of the best options that they can get at a decent price. Even coach Ange Postecoglou has given the club the nod to sign the Nigerian attacker.
Gent may be willing to accept, as it would be a massive return on the €3.3million they spent in January. Orban would also become the most expensive departure from the club, beating Jonathan David, who joined Lille for €27million in 2020.
