Top five Nigerian players to watch in the European League this week

The UEFA leagues will once again open their curtains on Tuesday, starting with the UEFA Champions League Round 16 matches in Germany and in England.

Also, Europa League will embrace some exciting matches, from England to Spain and all locations across Europe.

Meanwhile, some Nigerian stars will be looking to build on their successes over the weekend and deliver an impressive performances for the fans across all stadiums.

However, Soccernet.ng will highlight various Nigerian players to watch from February 21 to February 22, 2023.

Victor Osimhen (Napoli)

This season, the Super Eagles star has performed well for the Parthenopeans, scoring many goals that have brought him recognition in the football world.

The Nigerian will be hoping to continue his goal-scoring streak in the Champions League when his club plays Eintracht Frankfurt, having scored only one goal in the 2022–23 season campaign.

Zaidu Sanusi (FC Porto)

Even if the Nigerian full-back has lost Sérgio Conceiço’s favour in the starting line-up after he recovered from his injury (a tear in the abductor muscle), the supporters will never forget his valiant effort against Bayer Leverkusen in their Group stage match at the Estádio do Drago.

This week, Nigerians should keep an eye on the Super Eagles defender as his team squares off against Inter Milan at the San Siro Stadium.

Moses Simon (FC Nantes)

Juventus will be looking to secure their place in the Europa League last 16 when they take on les Canaris at Stadium de la Beaujoire after failing to defeat Nantes in Turin. The Bianconeri are in good spirits after defeating Spezia 2-0, but they will need to perform well on the pitch.

Moses only played 13 minutes against the Old Ladies and made no attempts to score in their match at the Juventus stadium, but after demonstrating his value by helping his team score a consolation goal against RC Lens the last time out, he could be given a chance to start against Juventus.

The Nigerian would want to make a significant contribution for his team this time since he knows that his fellow citizens will be rooting for him.

Calvin Bassey (Ajax)

Despite receiving recent criticism, Calvin Bassey has been working hard to win over new admirers on the Dutch squad.

He has been instrumental for the Amsterdam club in their Champions League campaign despite the criticism from all quarters by contributing an assist in Ajax’s 4-nil victory against his previous side Glasgow Rangers and another in their defeat to Napoli.

However, the Nigerian would be looking forward to firing on with an impressive performance when his side travels to Germany to face Union Berlin.

Gift Orban (KAA Gent)

In their Ghelamco Arena, KAA Gent will face Qarabag in the first leg of the European Conference League round of 32. Gift, who has been spectacular for the Belgian squad, scoring 2 goals in the past three outings, will be among those who will be going all guns blazing at the Azzurri. Gent is ready to exact vengeance on Qarabag for a 1-0 setback at Tofiq Bahramov Stadium.
