Time to join Ronaldo? Onuachu linked with Saudi Arabian club, two Bundesliga sides
Onuachu just arrived at Southampton in January, but the deal has proved to be a bad one
Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu has emerged as a target for Saudi Arabian club Al Taawoon, and Bundesliga clubs Union Berlin and VFB Stuttgart, Soccernet.ng reports.
Onuachu joined Southampton from Genk in January after three successful seasons in Belgium. The Nigerian goal machine was signed to help the club in their battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
However, the transfer turned out to be a horrible one for Onuachu. The 29-year-old striker failed to contribute to a goal in 11 appearances for the Saints. And he was more of a peripheral figure at Southampton as he was behind Adam Armstrong and Carlos Alcaraz in the pecking order.
Unfortunately for Onauchu, the Saints eventually got relegated. Following their drop, Onuachu’s future has been in the balance. There is a possibility that the former Genk man would
Southampton paid €17million for his services, and very few clubs may offer anything close to that for the Super Eagles star, especially after his poor start to life in England.
However, according to Sacha Tavolieri, some clubs are interested in Onuachu. Saudi Arabian side Al Taawoon, and Bundesliga clubs Union Berlin and VFB Stuttgart are weighing up a move for him.
Ruben Selles is still in charge at Southampton, as such, Onuachu’s fortunes may not improve. The Nigerian striker may be keen on leaving. An outright buy could cost around €15million.
