“The prototype of the modern striker” – Osimhen draws praise from France legend
Osimhen has been one of the best strikers in the world at the moment, and a former French hitman acknowledged the fact
Legendary French striker David Trezeguet believes Super Eagles hitman Victor Osimhen is the perfect example of a striker.
Napoli bought Osimhen from Lille in 2020 for €72million. But struggled to fit into the setup at Naples in his first season due to injuries.
However, since last season, the Super Eagles hitman has morphed into one of the deadliest strikers in world football.
He ended last season with 14 goals in the Serie A. And this season, he has beaten his own personal best as he has 17 goals after 18 league games.
Asides from his outstanding goal tally, his goals have also been timely for Napoli, as they have helped Napoli seal last-minute victories.
Legendary French hitman Trezeguet appreciates Osimhen’s quality and believes that he is a quintessential striker.
“I follow Osimhen elsewhere, everyone wants him,” Trezeguet said per Napoli Magazine.
“In Germany and France, he’s talked about a lot, he’s demonstrating a lot.
“He’s already done it with Lille, he did very well there. He’s a unique player, a prototype of the new player, fast, and he moves a lot.
“I think he has become a striker with an important profile. He knows how to move and manage himself in the match.”
Napoli have been superb this season. They sit at the summit of the Serie A with a 15-point advantage, and they look food for the Scudetto.
The Serie A trophy has eluded them for over 30 years. With Osimhen’s brilliance this season, if they can hold on till the end of the season, his spot would be sealed in Napoli’s history books.
