Super Onuachu continues to fuel Genk’s title charge
The Smurfs needed a win to enforce their authority at the summit of the Jupiler League, and Onuachu was on hand to deliver it
Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu netted a brace for Genk in their 4-0 home victory over Seraing on Sunday.
After Royale Union SG defeated Charleroi on Saturday, Genk needed to respond with a victory when they squared off against Seraing at the Cegeka Arena on Sunday.
Genk wasted no time in enforcing their authority in the game, and they won a penalty after just five minutes. Big Nigerian striker Onuachu did not make any mistake from the spot, smashing the ball into the net to put the Smurfs in front after seven minutes.
Seven minutes later, Tresor Ndayishimiye scored for Genk to give them a comfortable cushion heading into the break.
In the second half, Genk showed hunger and bite, and they got their reward 15 minutes into the half, and Onuachu was at the heart of it.
The Super Eagles star received a great pass from Ndayishimiye in the box and struck a wicked shot past Guillaume Dietsch to make it 3-0 for Genk. He was then taken off three minutes later for Mbwana Samatta.
Pantsil scored the final goal for Genk four minutes to cement the 4-0 win.
With his brace, Onuachu now has 16 goals, the highest in the Jupiler League. Genk sit six points above Royale Union SG.
