Super Falcons head coach sets “target” for 2023 FIFA women’s World Cup

The Super Falcons are one of the select seven nations that have never failed to advance to the FIFA Women’s World Cup since the event’s inception.

Super Falcons head coach, Randy Waldrum, has revealed that the Super Falcon’s first goal as a team is to advance from the group stage.

The coach has set winning the FIFA women’s group stage as his first objective for the competition, according to a press statement from the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF.

The Nigerian women had a challenging draw in which they would compete against one of the co-hosts Australia, as well as Canada and Ireland.

However, the American who last time out guided the ladies to a dismal performance in the 12th edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON, hosted in Morocco will have to wipe away the awful record with a fresh vigour when his squad travels to Europe.

Although the 66-year-old is hopeful and thinks his team may progress in the international tournament, he underlined that they must take things gradually in order to reach their objectives.

The Texas native said, in a statement published on the Nigerian football body’s website,

“The first target for us at the World Cup is to advance out of the group stage.

“Everyone wants to get to the knockout stage but obviously in order to achieve that, you have to advance out of the group,our focus is principally on doing that.”

The Super Falcons will start their campaign against the Olympic champions Canada at the 2023 FIFA World Cup, which runs from Thursday, July 20, to Sunday, August 20, 2023.
