Super Eagles star draws close to the Premier League as Everton begin deadline day talks
The Nigerian international could finally fulfill a childhood dream of playing in one of Europe’s biggest leagues
English Premier League campaigners, Everton have opened transfer talks with Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu and his representatives, according to reports.
Everton are one of the worst teams in the Premier League this term. The Toffees have the second poorest attack in the top flight, having managed just 15 goals in 20 games.
Unsurprisingly, the Merseysiders have carved out only three wins – the worst of any team in the division – and are stuck at the foot of the table alongside Southampton with 15 points.
That poor form led to the dismissal of manager Frank Lampard a few days ago and former Burnley boss Sean Dyche has been appointed to take over the reins of affairs at Goodison Park.
Bringing in a new attacker is also a priority and very few strikers know their ways to goal more than Paul Onuachu.
No Nigerian player in any of Europe’s major leagues has scored more goals than the KRC Genk forward over the last three seasons.
The 28-year-old is also leading the pack this term with 16 goals already in the Belgian Jupiler League.
Onuachu has been linked with a switch to Eintracht Frankfurt all winter but Everton could be more desperate for his services.
And as per Vital Everton, the Toffees have begun negotiations with Genk and Onuachu’s representatives with a deadline day move looking likely.
Genk value Onuachu at £25 million but a loan move for the rest of the season and an obligation to buy in the summer could see Everton get a quick deal done for their Nigerian target.
