Serie A: Napoli lose further ground in Scudetto race after loss to Juventus
Victor Osimhen played his first ninety-minute game for the first time in over a month last week, but couldn’t help Napoli as they fell to a 3-0 defeat against Inter Milan.
Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen couldn’t inspire Napoli to a point as his side fell to a defeat at the Allianz Arena in Turin to Juventus by a lone goal, Soccernet.ng reports.
Prior to the hugely anticipated clash, Napoli had only won a game out of their last five games and were desperate to make a statement of intent in tonight’s game.
Victor Osimhen started up-front, partnered by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Mateo Politano on the flanks as they looked to go up the Serie A table.
The home side nearly opened the scoring just seven minutes into the game. A pass from McKennie found Cambiaso on the right, who then darted into the box before drilling his shot just wide.
Kvaratskhelia scuffed a glorious chance just before the half-hour mark after an Osimhen pass found the Georgian in space, and he was through on goal, but he somehow missed the target.
Napoli, again came close to breaking the deadlock a few minutes before half-time. A Zielinski free-kick caused a mix-up in the host’s defence, and the ball fell into Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s path. The captain hit a volley, but Wojciech Szczesny was equal to the task.
The visitors started the second half on the front foot and even hit the woodwork, but it was the hosts who drew first blood as Federico Gatti sent Juventus ahead.
McKennie teed up Cambiaso for a cross, and his whipped ball picked out Gatti at the far post. The defender then carefully guided the ball into the back of the net for the only goal of the game.
Victor Osimhen thought he’d equalized for the Gli Azzurri before the flag was raised by the linesman who called the goal back for offside. The Napoleans continued to fight, but it wasn’t to be.
