Samson Tijani’s Red Bull Salzburg emerge league champions for 9th straight season

The Super Eagles midfielder joined the rest of the Red Bull Salzburg squad to celebrate their title triumph

Former U-17 captain, Samson Tijani wasn’t in the squad for Red Bull Salzburg as they walloped Austria Vienna 5-0 on Sunday to confirm their place as league winners in the 2021/22 season but he joined his teammates to celebrate their Austrian Bundesliga triumph.

Tijani played a part this season for the Austrian giants after being recalled from his loan to FC Hartberg at the beginning of the year. He featured in three league games for the champions and nine times for relegation-battling Hartberg.

The Super Eagles midfielder has had a season to remember, playing in the Salzburg first team and making his debut in the UEFA Champions League.

While chances have been limited, the 19-year old is highly regarded by 34-year old Salzburg coach, Matthias Jaissle as one of the potentials in the team.

The league triumph was the ninth on a trot for Red Bull Salzburg who have been winning the title since 2014.

Also involved in the celebrations of the title were Red Bull Salzburg’s players of Nigerian descent including Karim Adeyemi, Noah Okafor and Chukwubuike Adamu.

With Adeyemi reported to be headed to Borussia Dortmund next season, offers have also come in for Adamu and Okafor.

Salzburg being a pipeline of talents will expect to lose several key players this season with opportunities for players like Tijani on the horizon.

The Nigerian will also be playing in the Champions League next season.
