Rudi Garcia: Victor Osimhen to work with former AS Roma manager as Napoli replace Luciano Spalletti
The veteran manager will work with the prolific Nigerian forward next season if he decides to stay in Italy
Former AS Roma manager Rudi Garcia has been appointed as the new Napoli head coach, with immediate effect, Soccernet.ng reports.
Garcia will replace, with immediate effect, Spalletti, who guided Napoli to their first Scudetto title in 33 years.
Spalletti also led Napoli to their first-ever appearance in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League.
After Spalletti declared that he wanted a rest and would no longer coach Napoli, several managers were linked with taking over the Naples-based club. Former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique and PSG boss Christophe Galtier were tipped to be the frontrunners for the job.
But Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis broke the news of Garcia’s appointment on his Twitter account this evening.
“I have the pleasure of announcing that, after having met and discussed with him during the last ten days, Mr. Rudi Garcia will be the new coach of Napoli. A sincere welcome to him and a big good luck!” – De Laurentiis wrote in Italian.
Napoli’s official Twitter page has also confirmed the Frenchman’s appointment.
