RB Leipzig boss names Super Eagles star as potential threat ahead of Rangers clash
The Red bulls are favorites going into the tie, but Tedesco is wary of the kind of threat that the Scottish champions carry
RB Leipzig boss Dominic Tedesco has named Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo a potential threat to his team when they lock horns with Rangers in the first leg of their Europa League semifinal clash.
The Gers will appear in a UEFA competition for the first time in 14 years, and they would fancy their chances against a relatively inexperienced Leipzig side who are yet to make history in any UEFA competition.
Nonetheless, Tedesco’s lads are significant favorites going into the tie, as the Germans sit fourth in the Bundesliga, which is higher than the Scottish Premiership according to the UEFA coefficient.
Leipzig saw off Atalanta in the quarterfinal, but they would need to be wary, as Rangers had already eliminated another German opposition- Borussia Dortmund in the round of 16.
Aribo has been important for the Gers in the Europa League this season, appearing in all of their games and notching three assists.
Tedesco is aware of the threat that the former Charlton man poses and has named him as one of the players he would be looking to silence.
“It’s a semi-final. If you achieve this target, you can be sure that you are a strong team,” Tedesco said in the pre-match presser.
“We know that Roofe will miss the game, they can play Aribo as a No.10, he is strong in the half-spaces, and they also have Fashion JR.”
Against Dortmund, Aribo assisted one goal, and he would look to play an integral role when they lock horns with Leipzig.
