‘Nowhere Is Safe’ – CAN Reacts To Abuja-Kaduna Rail Attack
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has condemned the attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train, describing it as an act of terrorism.
Ezenwoko’s Blog had reported that former lawmaker, Shehu Sani, who was among passengers on the train, disclosed that “terrorists attacked the Kaduna Abuja railway with an explosive and opened fire on the train, targeting the Engine Driver & the Tank.”
CAN, in a statement on Sunday by its Vice President (Northern region) and chairman of Kaduna State chapter, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, asked the Federal Government to declare bandits as terrorists.
The Christian group stated that the attack on the rail track shows that nowhere is safe in the country, adding that that bandits in Kaduna had become very strong and daring to government and security agents.
CAN state that the attack was an additional cause of concern for the people of Kaduna State and those coming to do business in the state.
The statement reads: “Thank God Governor El-Rufai himself has called on the Federal Government to declare bandits as terrorists so that our security forces can kill them. This shows further that the era of denials and playing politics with insecurity is coming to an end.
“Unless we maintain a firm position against those tormenting our citizens, these bandits will not let us have peace.
“Now that the bandits are destroying rail lines, what else have they not done to confirm they are terrorists and enemies of the state?
“Our government should act decisively now before it will be too late.’’
