Nottingham Forest star Taiwo Awoniyi could be ‘reintroduced’ in Wolverhampton clash
Nottingham Forest has not seen action from the Super Eagles forward since January
Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper has provided an update on Super Eagles forward Taiwo Awoniyi’s injury.
The Nigerian attacker has been absent from Cooper’s squad since January due to a groyne injury suffered during their 1-0 loss to Southampton at Saint Mary’s Stadium.
The Nigerian international was gradually getting used to West Bridgford culture and was beginning to keep up with the fast-paced English Premier League.
With this, the Nigerian’s impact to the squad started to be felt as he scored in several crucial matches, including the team’s triumph against the Saints in January with a solitary goal.
The Welsh boss has often issued updates on Awoniyi’s injury situation over the last several weeks, most notably saying that the Nigerian is back in action and getting close to a return.
The 43-year-old stated that he has resumed full training and seemed in excellent form ahead of the Wolverhampton encounter, and the squad may be prepared to feature him going forward.
“He’s back now. He looks sharp. He definitely looks motivated and excited to be involved again.
“We look forward to reintroducing him, whenever that may be.
“We obviously have to be careful with him, because he’s been out for a long while; we have to respect that. It’s just good to have him back on the training ground.” he said.
The Tricky Trees are tied for 16th in the English Premier League with Everton and Leeds on a single point (26). Cooper will be forced to deploy Awoniyi as soon as possible given that they have lost three of their past five games and the unavailability of Brennan Johnson.
