Nigeria’s Flying Eagles win fair play award as Senegal clear the top prizes at AFCON U20
The Nigerian national U20 team claimed the bronze medal after beating their Tunisian counterpart in the third-place match in Egypt on Friday
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have won the Fair Play award at the CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations, which recently concluded in Egypt.
The Ladan Bosso-tutored side received the accolade from the Confederation of African Football a day after securing the bronze medal at the tournament.
The Flying Eagles defeated Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles 4-0 in the match played at Cairo International Stadium on Friday.
This is the second time the team has won the Fair Play award, having also claimed it during the group stage of the Afcon.
Senegal has emerged as the winner of the 2023 African U20 Cup of Nations. They secured their first title by defeating Gambia 2-0 in the final.
Senegal won all six matches in the tournament without conceding a single goal. And the goalkeeper of the team, Landing Badji, has been named the Best Goalkeeper of the tournament.
Senegal midfielder Pape Demba Diop won the Umbro Golden Boot award for being the leading scorer of the tournament with five goals.
Meanwhile, Lamine Camara, who recently joined Metz FC, was named the Best Player of the TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The CAF Technical Study Group of the tournament presented him with the Man of the Tournament award after Saturday’s final in Cairo.
