Nigerians abroad: Ighalo outshines Ronaldo, Osimhen equals Martins, Kayode strikes, Ajayi solid
Nigerian footballers continue to shine across the globe as they feature in different leagues and competitions.
Victor Osimhen’s goal for Napoli was not enough to see them through to the UEFA Champions League semifinals as they bowed out following a 1-2 aggregate defeat to AC Milan.
However, Osimhen’s fifth goal in the competition this season equalled Obafemi Martins’ record for the most goals scored by a Nigerian player in a single season of the Champions League.
In the Championship, Semi Ajayi’s impressive display at the heart of West Brom’s defence helped them keep a clean sheet in their 2-1 triumph over Blackpool.
In League One, Victor Adeboyejo scored his third goal of the year for Bolton Wanderers in their 1-1 draw with Burton Albion.
Meanwhile, in Lithuania, 21-year-old Ebuka Onah scored the only goal of the game as Riteirai defeated Suduva 1-0 in a gameweek 9 clash of the A Lyga.
In the Saudi Arabia Pro League, Odion Ighalo’s two penalty kicks secured Al Hilal a 2-0 victory over Al Nassr, denting Cristiano Ronaldo’s chances of winning the league title in his first year in Saudi Arabia.
Ighalo’s brace takes his tally to 18 league goals for the season, while Ronaldo has 11 goals.
Finally, in the Turkish Süper Lig, Olanrewaju Kayode’s second goal in six matches was not enough to save Ümraniyespor from a 4-2 defeat at Fatih Karagümrük.
