Nigerian teen wonder close to sealing record move to Denmark
One of Nigeria’s brightest youngsters could be on the move before the winter transfer window closes in the next few hours
Nigeria’s teenage star Akinkunmi Amoo is on the verge of completing a record switch from Sweden’s Hammarby IF to former Denmark champions FC Copenhagen, according to a report by Tipsbladet.
Amoo only joined the Bajen in June 2020 after making a huge impression with the Golden Eaglets at the cadet World Cup.
The youngster won the Swedish Cup with Hammarby in his first year at the club and enjoyed an even better campaign last season, narrowly missing out on the Allsvenskan’s young player award.
Overall, the 19-year-old has played 48 games for Hammarby, netting 13 goals and laying on six assists from the right-wing.
Amoo was even in line for a late Super Eagles call-up for the Africa Cup of Nations following a string of withdrawals from national team regulars.
And it was no surprise to see him linked with a few significant clubs in Europe, including Scottish champions Rangers and Danish giants Copenhagen.
And with Rangers signing Manchester United prodigy Amad Diallo on loan, Tipsbladet reports that Copenhagen have won the race for Amoo.
Aside from securing a resale clause in the deal, Hammarby will reportedly receive between £3.5m and £4m for Amoo, which will, in either case, make the young Nigerian playmaker the club’s biggest ever sale.
Copenhagen are currently second on the Danish Superliga table, two points behind leaders FC Midtjylland. And the signing of Amoo could help The Lions push for their first league title in three years.
