Nigerian descent: Former Chelsea midfielder who can play eight roles joins Swindon Town on a two-year deal
Talented English midfielder of Nigerian descent, Tariq Onyedika E. Uwakwe, is set to make a splash at Swindon Town as he signs a two-year deal with the club, Soccernet.ng reports.
The announcement comes just in time for the weekend game against Colchester, and fans are eagerly anticipating Uwakwe’s impact on the team.
What sets Uwakwe who is eligible to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria apart is his incredible versatility on the field, as he can seamlessly play in multiple positions.
Having begun his football journey at Chelsea when he was just eight years old, Uwakwe has honed his skills to masterfully handle eight different positions on the pitch.
Whether it’s in central midfield, attacking midfield, out wide, or even in a more defensive role, Uwakwe’s adaptability is sure to be a valuable asset for Swindon Town.
His loan spell at Accrington Stanley showcased his immense potential, as he dazzled fans with a memorable hat-trick during an EFL Trophy tie against Leeds United U21s. His league debut against Peterborough United was equally impressive, with Uwakwe finding the net.
In January 2022, Uwakwe made the move to EFL League One club Crewe Alexandra, but his time there was marred by a knee injury that kept him out of action for several weeks.
Nevertheless, he showed his worth with a crucial goal in a 2-2 draw against Harrogate Town in February 2023. Despite being offered a new contract by Crewe at the end of the season, both parties amicably agreed to part ways on 30 June 2023.
With his move to Swindon Town, the 23-year-old midfielder is ready to embrace a fresh challenge and showcase his skills in the upcoming season.
