Naija Super 8: Remo Stars claim all three points against NPFL Champions

Remo Stars kicked off their Super 8 campaign with a thrilling win over NPFL Champions, Enyimba F.C at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos.

Remo Stars have put a strong foot towards qualifying for the Naija Super8 Semi-Finals, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Ogun state-based club had the chance to avenge the NPFL winner, Enyimba F.C. on Friday, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in grand style to take control of Group A and have set their sights on qualification to the semi-finals.

The Ogun State indigenes came out on top in a game that could have gone either way. After ending last season in second place, they have shown that it'll be no jokes in next season's competition.

Isaac James, Remo stars new signing, on his debut, in a man-of-the-match performance, scored a goal and set up another to help his side seal the win and has given a glimpse of what he has to offer to the Remo Faithfuls.

He scored the first goal in the twentieth minute after dribbling past the defender and slid the ball just underneath the legs of the goalkeeper from close range, but it didn't take long before the league champions bounced back.

A beautiful pass from the edge of the box, by Nonso Nzediegwu, left all the centre-backs ball-watching, leaving Chisom Okereke no chance but to tap it home for the equalizer.

In an end-to-end game, with chances coming in thick and fast, the game decider came in the fifty-eight minute. Another through ball found Isaac James, and the striker was no match for Enyimba's Paschal Eze, beating him for pace, before squaring a low cross to be tapped in by Ogunribide Seun.

Isaac was a sight to behold as he deservedly went home with the man-of-the-match award, despite playing his first game for his new side.

Daniel Ogunmodede's coach was also full of praise for their new number nine. Speaking to Soccernet.ng in his post-match interview, he said;

“He's a new player, and he's shown his quality quickly. He has been doing this in training, so we needed to get him. I wouldn't have brought him here if he weren't that good. I deal with quality, and I saw what I can improve in him to make him a better player, and he's shown he deserves to be in Remo Stars.”

When the coach was quizzed about the win over the league champions being a potential tipping point to turn the odds in their favour, he said;

“For the League, we are ready!.”

Akwa United will play against Yobe Stars by 2 pm, while Rivers United take on Lobi Stars later by 4:30 pm. All games will be played at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos State.
