My late husband wasn’t drunk, DPO lied – Wife of Kwara Inspector who died in custody

Oluwabukola, the wife of Taiye Atobiloye, the late Kwara Inspector who died in a cell at the D Division of the Kogi State Police Command, has claimed that her late husband wasn’t drunk, adding that the Divisional Police Officer lied.

Before his death in April, Taiye was detained for being absent from duty for two days at the Zone 8 Command, Lokoja, Kogi State.

According to his wife, before her husband went to Lokoja, he and his DPO had an argument because it was not his turn to go to Lokoja but after he was told that he must go to Lokoja, he went.

She disclosed that her husband left Lokoja because of his ill health and returned the following week, but on getting to Lokoja, her husband informed her that they wanted to put him in a cell because he left work without permission.

The bereaved wife said the DPO confirmed that her husband was sick in the cell but she claimed her husband was abandoned in the cell, without food, water or treatment.
