Lagos PDP Congress Cancelled As Thugs Invade Venue
The Lagos State planned congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been cancelled.
Ezenwoko’s Blog understands that the cancellation was announced after some political thugs invaded the Tafawa Balewa Square, where the exercise had started on Saturday.
State Congress Electoral Committee Chairman, Engr. Benson Abounu while declaring the cancellation, noted that the congress was disrupted by the hoodlums who came with weapons to cause unrest.
It was alleged that the thugs invaded the venue of the congress with the intention of rigging the exercise. No new date, however, has been announced for the congress as of the time of publishing this report.
Ezenwoko’s Blog reports the opposition party had successfully conducted its ward and local government congresses but was confronted with resistance of some sort on Saturday.
Meanwhile, unknown gunmen on Saturday stormed the palace of Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Alake of Egbaland, which is been used as the venue of the congress of the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress.
The faction of Senator Ibikunle Amosun had rented the event centre in the palace for its congress.
The former Governor of the state had scheduled the congress for the palace, while the state Governor, Dapo Abiodun picked MKO Abiodun stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta.
It was gathered that before the congress started at the palace, the gunmen broke into the venue. The incident saw members of the party, including security operatives, scamper for safety as the gunmen disrupt the activities.
The supporters of the party later threw stones at the hoodlums who later fled the scene.
Aggrieved youths who were not pleased that security operatives did not resist the hoodlums, charged towards the security men and chased them away.
