Kelechi Iheanacho: Leicester City star is ruled out for a number of weeks
Iheanacho’s contribution to the build-up play was essential to Leicester City’s dramatic equaliser
Super Eagles attacker, Kelechi Iheanacho, is set to miss a number of weeks for Leicester after picking up an injury against Leeds United.
The 26-year-old was seen hobbling during the Foxes’ game against Leeds United. He had worked hard to set up James Maddison and provided a lovely ball for Jamie Vardy to beat past Illan Meslier.
The Nigerian is anticipated to miss the remainder of the season after a scan revealed a torn muscle.
However, Leicester City boss, Dean Smith, said it would be challenging to get him back in condition by the season’s finale against West Ham in May but refused to rule him out for the remainder of the campaign at his press conference on Friday afternoon.
“He’s got a tear in his adductor muscle. It puts him out for a number of weeks. It’s significant enough.
“It’s not going to rule him out until the end of the season, there’s five games to go. But it’s going to be tough to get him back. Hopefully we can.
“He’s disappointed obviously. He’d just scored two goals in two games and was putting in a good performance. It’s unfortunate for him. It’s a blow.
“He came on against Man City and did ever so well. He scored a goal, hit the post and had another chance as well. I thought he played well in the Wolves game, scoring and creating opportunities for Vards. His all-around displays have been really good. It will be a loss but like always it gives opportunities for others now.” he said, via the club’s official website.
Leicester will have the opportunity to increase their advantage over Sean Dyche’s team by winning Monday’s game against Everton at the King Power Stadium.
