Jose Peseiro: Super Eagles gaffer willing to take pay cut to remain as coach

Jose Peseiro, who took over from Augustine Eguavoen in May 2022, has only won three of his eight games

Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro is prepared to cut his compensation in order to keep his job when his contract ends, Soccernet.ng reports.

The former Porto manager, who is now on a $70,000-per-month deal, wants to stay on as head coach as his current contract ends in June 2023.

The Portuguese manager was hired in May 2022, after temporary manager Austin Eguavoen had been reassigned to NFF Technical Director.

The 63-year-old, on the other hand, has come under fire as his squad has struggled, winning just two of the past eight games since he took over.

The NFF is reportedly struggling to pay the manager's salaries since the contract was arranged under the auspices of the previous NFF chairman, Amaju Pinnick, with his wages supposed to be funded by the office of the president.

Sunday Dare, the outgoing minister for , subsequently said that was not the case since the coach is presently due six months' pay, and it would be a difficult decision whether to extend his contract or not.

The coach is said to be open to remaining since he wants to take the national team to the AFCON and maybe win it, and he has the backing of the senior players, who are making a case for him to be kept for another year.
