incident on Middlesbrough’s first day of pre-season fuels Nigerian attacker’s exit talks
Akpom had a spectacular campaign last season, and he has been linked with a transfer to the Premier League
Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom missed Middlesbrough’s first pre-season training on Tuesday amidst talks that he could leave the club, Soccernet reports.
Akpom was the best striker in the English Championship last season, netting 28 goals in 40 appearances.
Unfortunately, his brilliance was not enough in Middlesbrough’s hunt for Premier League promotion, as they were knocked out in the playoffs.
Following Akpom’s performance last season, he has been linked with a transfer to some clubs in the English top-flight. The 27-year-old star has been linked with Everton and Crystal Palace, but a deal is yet to take shape.
Middlesbrough opened their pre-season camp in Portugal on Tuesday. However, Akpom was not present. But according to Teesside Live, the Nigerian attacker had a minor injury and had to skip the training.
However, this could mean he is unsettled at the club and could be on his way out soon. Akpom is valued at €12million per Transfermarket.
