“I’d be delighted” – Polish midfielder weighs in on Victor Osimhen’s Ballon d’Or chances
Only Manchester City forward Erling Haaland has outscored the Nigerian international in Europe’s top five leagues this campaign
Polish international and Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski has expressed his hopes for teammate Victor Osimhen to win the prestigious Ballon d’Or award.
In a recent interview with Sport Mediaset (via Tutto Napoli), Zielinski expressed his admiration for the Super Eagles striker and his potential to reach the pinnacle of footballing success.
When asked if Osimhen and teammate Kvara Kvaratskhelia were worthy of the Golden Ball award, Zielinski responded, “They’re two very strong players; they give a lot. If one day they win it, I’d be delighted, but I’m thinking about the team.”
Zielinski’s comments come as no surprise, as Osimhen, who has been called the best striker in Europe, is having a phenomenal year in Italy.
The Nigerian striker has scored 25 goals and provided four assists in all competitions, including four in the Champions League to lift Napoli to a first-ever quarterfinal appearance.
The Ballon d’Or is awarded annually by France Football magazine to the best male footballer in the world, and it is considered one of the most prestigious awards in the sport.
While Osimhen has been spectacular this season, he has a long way to go before he can realistically contend for the award.
However, with Zielinski’s words of encouragement, Osimhen will undoubtedly be even more motivated to reach the top of the footballing world and potentially become a Ballon d’Or winner.
