Ibrahim Gusau: NFF boss states ‘key factors’ to play for the national team
Nigeria’s Super Eagles have lost six games in eight matches under new management
The President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau, has stated the primary considerations for donning the national team’s jersey.
The Super Eagles and Olympic Eagles, who competed on Thursday and Friday, respectively, failed to excite the Nigerian crowd.
The President has so made it plain that the main criteria for wearing the Nigerian Jersey would be dedication, body language, and output.
The Super Eagles’ match against Guinea-Bissau concluded in a 3-1 loss for Guinea, while Nigeria’s U-23 team’s match against Guinea finished in a scoreless tie at the Moshood Abiola Stadium.
Nigeria’s national team has received criticism for playing with less grit than the national teams of other African nations, which is inconsistent with how they perform for their individual clubs.
In his remarks to the Super Eagles after their defeat, the 59-year-old administrator scoffed at this mindset and listed the requirements for playing for the squad.
“Total commitment that we can see in your body language and output will now be a key factor in who wears Nigeria’s jerseys. If some players are not ready to give their all at a particular time, others will be and will deliver for our country.” he said.
Tuesday will see the second leg match between the Olympic Eagles and Guinea, while Monday, March 27, 2023, will see the Super Eagles trying to right their wrongs as they take on Guinea-Bissau
