Former England and Arsenal striker, Ian Wright, had a message for Nigeria’s Football Federation (NFF) following the Super Falcons’ impressive victory over Australia in the ongoing Women’s World Cup, Soccernet.ng reports.
In a thrilling match in Brisbane, Nigeria showcased their resilience by coming from a goal down to secure a remarkable 3-2 win against the co-hosts.
Prior to the tournament, tensions had arisen between the Super Falcons and the NFF due to unpaid bonuses, with head coach Randy Waldrum reportedly yet to receive his salaries.
Having closely followed the World Cup in New Zealand and Australia, Wright took to social media to address the situation and plea with the NFF to pay the team. On Twitter, he wrote, “Pay them Nigeria Football Federation.”

During the enthralling encounter in Brisbane, the Matildas took the lead after Emily van Egmond’s goal. However, their advantage was short-lived as Uchenna Kanu equalized just before half-time.
In the second half, the nine-time African champions continued their impressive performance, taking the lead through Osinachi Ohale. Later, Barcelona star and second-half substitute Asisat Oshoala extended the advantage.
In a dramatic end to the match, the Matildas managed to pull one back through Alana Kennedy, but Nigeria held on to secure a memorable victory.
