“I wasn’t in support of Gernot Rohr’s dismissal” – Eguavoen

Former Super Eagles coach, Austin Eguavoen has steered clear of involvement in the sacking of his predecessor, Gernot Rohr.

Rohr was sacked a few weeks to the African Cup of Nations with former Nigerian international, Eguavoen drafted in to replace him.

Eguavoen was appointed on an interim basis during at the AFCON and led the team to a Round of 16 finish. His place was held down by the Nigeria Football Federation for the World Cup qualifier against Ghana and he failed to help Nigeria book a ticket to Qatar.

Eguavoen, appearing as a guest on Monday Night Football on Supersport said he wasn’t in support of Rohr’s dismissal as it came too close to a major tournament.

“Yes, I complained about the timing as it was too close to the Africa Cup of Nations.”

The former Enyimba coach has been criticised for his failure eke great results from a talented pool of players. Eguavoen resigned last week while the NFF sacked other members of the technical crew for their failure to help Nigeria qualify for the World Cup.
