‘I want her to experience Abuja and Lagos'- Leicester-born Plumptre anticipate her return to Nigeria

Former Leicester City Women defender Ashleigh Megan Plumptre has expressed her desire to bring her sister to Nigeria, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 25-year-old Nigerian international, who previously represented LA Galaxy OC, made the decision to represent the Super Falcons to learn more about her ancestry.

Since joining the team in 2022, Plumptre has been a valuable addition to Randy Waldrum's squad, impressing as a left-back in their recent match against the Australian Matildas.

Plumptre's eligibility to play for Nigeria comes through her father and grandfather, both of whom are Nigerians. She made her competitive debut for the Super Falcons in their 2-0 win over Ivory Coast in the first leg of their Africa Women's Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Speaking to Soccernet.ng, Plumptre revealed her strong connection to Nigeria and her interest in exploring more than just football opportunities in the country.

“I'd love to [bring my sister to Nigeria]. You know what, there is this ladies in conference this Friday (before the World Cup) and I was invited to Lagos to speak there.

“Because I am doing my rehab[ilitation] here, I haven't been able to actually visit. But I am doing a Zoom call there. I do hope that, at some point, I could go. At some point, I can go.

“Obviously, I have been to Nigeria. I have had a lot more to do in Nigerian than being in football. I want to take my sister [to Nigeria] at some point. I think that would be good for her. I want her to experience Abuja and Lagos,” she said.
