Ex-Super Eagles captain, Vincent Enyeama, has revealed he had no idea the Nigerian National team had goalkeeping problems, mentioning he doesn't watch Nigerian football, Soccernet.ng reports.

Enyeama, 41, racked up a hundred and one appearances for the Super Eagles between 2002 and 2015, featuring in three FIFA World Cups, and was deputy captain of the team that won the 2013 AFCON tournament.

The ex-Lille goalkeeper, now retired, announced his retirement from the national team in 2015 after a fall-out with the football governing body in Nigeria.

In light of a recent interview, Enyeama revealed that he felt he was treated like a piece of material, and since then, he chose not to watch Nigerian football.

“Sincerely, I've not been following Nigerian football right from the day I left. With due respect, I was treated like a piece of material, so I put up a block between myself and the national team and only recently started to follow what is happening,” the former Enyimba goalkeeper told Hotsports NG.

A CAF Champions League winner with Enyimba, Enyeama mentioned he felt deeply hurt by what happened between himself and the NFF.

“I stopped watching the national team football because I was deeply hurt, but now I'm at ease. I've changed chapters. I can't really say much about the national team and the goalkeeping because I am not watching them,” He added.

A lot of Nigerian football fans have been wanting to hear from the legendary goalkeeper after underwhelming performances by Omonia S.C.'s Francis Uzoho, but he clarified that he had nothing to say.

Nigeria have only picked up two points from their opening two games in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
