Hojlund’s replacement: Atalanta to reactivate chase for Super Eagles star as Danish striker look set to join Manchester United
The Italian team’s rapid interest in a Hojlund replacement shows that, after losing their UEFA Champions League position, they want to strengthen their attacking options for the upcoming season
Italian club Atalanta is reportedly preparing to rekindle their pursuit of Super Eagles forward, Emmanuel Dennis, following the agreement between the club and Manchester United for the sale of Rasmus Hojlund.
According to earlier reports from Soccernet.ng, Atalanta had initially considered Nottingham Forest’s forward as a potential addition to strengthen their attacking line.
However, with the sale of Hojlund to Manchester United now confirmed, Atalanta has reportedly renewed their contacts with the Nigerian international.
Dennis has shown promise in his career, drawing comparisons to his fellow countryman, Ademola Lookman, who significantly impacted Atalanta last season, netting 15 goals and providing eight assists in 33 appearances across Serie A and the Italian Cup.
The Super Eagles attacker who has previously played for Watford and Nottingham Forest in England, has accumulated 62 appearances, scoring 12 goals and contributing nine assists.
Despite a decline in form during his last season at Forest, managing only two goals and three assists in 25 games, Atalanta remains keen on acquiring the striker’s services.
Amidst transfer rumours linking him to other clubs like Leeds United and teams in Saudi Arabia, Dennis has displayed loyalty to Nottingham Forest.
However, Atalanta believes their squad will provide the ideal platform for Dennis to rediscover his best form and make a significant impact in Gian Piero Gasperini’s offensive lineup.
The Italian team’s interest in Dennis demonstrates their desire to improve their attacking alternatives for the forthcoming campaign, having lost their UEFA Champions League spot.
