FG gives conditions for fresh evacuation

The Federal Government on Monday gave conditions for fresh evacuation of Nigerians stranded in war-torn Sudan.

This was made known by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission spokesperson, AbdulRahman Balogun.

A total of 2,518 Nigerian evacuees arrived in Nigeria in 15 flights from Sudan.

The PUNCH reports that the 15th flight on Saturday with 147 Nigerian returnees was the last batch of Nigerians airlifted from Port Sudan.

No fewer than 1,100 Nigerians fleeing the insurrection in Sudan but got stranded at the Egyptian border were evacuated while 1,418 others were evacuated from Port Sudan.

However, giving a fresh update, Balogun said there would be a mop up operation of those still stranded in Sudan.

Listing the conditions, he said, “You must get yourself to Port Sudan. You must have a means of identification as a Nigerian. You must have a verifiable contact or an abode in Nigeria.”

He added that those students who came out after the evacuation was almost completed grew to 200 from 26.

Balogun noted that it was “worrisome that the figure from 26 rose to about 200.

“All students who came out have been evacuated except those who just came out when the exercise almost concluded.”
