“Extra pleasing, yeah” – Iheanacho delighted with Manchester United goal at Old Trafford

The Foxes made away with a share of the spoils against the Red Devils on Saturday, with the Nigerian striker the best of the visitors’ men

Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho has expressed his pleasure at scoring against Manchester United at Old Trafford after helping Leicester City secure a 1-1 draw against Ralf Ragnick’s men.

Iheanacho started for the Foxes, despite a disappointing week that climaxed with the Super Eagles failing to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Nigerian delivered a man-of-the-match display, scoring the visitors’ only goal and assisting James Maddison’s goal that the referee later cancelled following a VAR review.

Brazilian midfielder Fred equalised for United four minutes after Iheanacho’s opener, but the Nigerian forward insists City were pleased with the draw.

“It was a good performance from us,” Iheanacho told LCFC TV.
“It wasn’t that cool in the first half, but we kept building up from the back.

“But in the second half, we were a bit better, we moved the ball quickly, and we got in good positions, and we got the goal. It was a great performance.”

In a tightly-contested game, Iheanacho broke the deadlock following good work from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Maddison.

With Fred threatening to lead a Man United counterattack off a Leicester cornerback, Dewsbury-Hall’s brilliant tackle won the ball back for Brendan Rodgers’ men and moved it on quickly to Maddison.

The Englishman sent a delicious cross into the box, where it met the diving head of Iheanacho.

The Nigerian striker described the goal.
“Dewsbury-Hall was great, made a great tackle, won the ball and gave it straight to Maddison,” he said.

“I expected that he was going to whip it in and I was at the right place at the right time to get my head to it.”

Kelechi Iheanacho now has four goals and three assists in his ten appearances against Manchester United. The LCFC ace admits that, as a former Manchester City player, he enjoyed the goal against the Red Devils even more.

“Extra pleasing, yeah. I’m happy to get a goal against them again. Obviously, now as a Leicester City player. I’m happy and hopefully more to come.

“We wanted to win the game but it wasn’t a bad one getting a draw at Old Trafford. So, we’ll take that and get ready for the next game.”

Up next for Leicester is a meeting against Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven at the King Power Stadium on Thursday in the first leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League quarterfinal clash.
